Horizon
2018/Academic Project
Architectural Design Studio 3
Duration: 8 Weeks
Horizon was fixated on program and functionality. The process of creating this site’s program differed from the normal process, due to the addition of horses to the design process. The concept revolves around having two types of circulation: one that includes horses and humans interacting simultaneously; and the other is elevated above, strictly for humans. This further separated work and observation of the facility. The functionality of the site played a big role in the design process. Creating an easy way for clients to drop off their horses without being forced to walk a long way after parking was essential. To solve this problem, every stall has an opening towards the parking area for quick and easy drop off. The use of butterfly and slanted roofs were a design solution geared towards the hot air circulation generated by the forging and shoeing area where temperatures remain above 100 degrees.

Site Plan
The site is located on a large field in Norman, Oklahoma. The terrain is almost completely flat, helping with the functionality of the design. The site contributes to an accessible structure, but also causes design challenges of integrating the facility into the landscape.
Materials
The material palette is aimed towards an industrial feel.
